A CHARLES II SILVER TANKARD struck with maker's mark IW, and pre-assay office marks, turret and twice with a lion passant to the cover and body. Slightly tapering cylindrical form with applied moulded rim with fine prick-dot band and moulded foot, the flat cover with a shallow stepped platform, heavy double scroll cast thumb piece, S-scroll handle with heel terminal, engraved with the shield and crest for the Orde family of Fishburne and Holy Island Northumberland, quartered with the Adamson family of Craigcrook Castle, Mid Lothian, possibly for John Adamson, later of Newcastle,.

'THE SAWLEY FLAGON' is a silver communion flagon with skirt base, scroll handle and hinged single-step cover. It is engraved with the arms of Newcastle and inscriptions: 'THO. DAVISON, ESQ. | 1670' above Newcastle arms, and on the other side (in italic capitals), 'The Gift of | Edward Norton Esq.| Mr Philip Launder | Mr William Kay | and ye Rev. Thos. Kay | to ye Chapel of Sawley | 1756'
Most of the domestic silver of Newcastle was melted down for coinage during the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745 which makes the flagon something of a rare piece.
Marked with three castles, a rose and 'W.R.'

A CHARLES II SILVER TANKARD, MAKERS MARK ED OR ID MONOGRAM chased with acanthus foliage and below the peak cap with two putti holding garlands of flowers, the cover with Roman Emperors profile within band of further foliage, conjoined monster thumb piece and scroll handle pricked WB and terminating in a panel of engraved armorials. The arms are those of Blacket(t), Northumberland.
Sides relief-chased with large flowers and scrolling acanthus leaves, the front with two putti supporting garlands of flowers, the cover centred by a Roman emperor to profile within floral surround, the bifurcated thumbpiece terminating in twin animal heads, the handle prick-dot engraved with initials 'W.B' and terminating in a narrow escutcheon engraved with contemporary arms flanked by plumed mantling

Cylindrical, with three pomegranate feet, slightly domed lid, mermaid with two tails thumb-piece and scroll handle ending in a shaped escutcheon. A CHARLES II SILVER PORRINGER with scroll handles is of particular interest because of its chinoiserie decorations birds and plants. Such decoration which is of Chinese origin or style, was at the time thought to be unique to only two London men but this porringer was almost certainly engraved in Newcastle.

The bulbous body and neck of the mug is formed from a single sheet with the reeded neck above the main body. The body is raised with a foot from applied heavy wire and there is a matching applied reeded strip scroll handle.

A WILLIAM III SILVER TANKARD with a tapering cylindrical body, constructed of sheet with an applied rim. The flat base has an applied moulded rim. Two parallel lines are shaped at the rim and base. The ear-shaped handle of D section is fabricated from two pieces and narrows and tapers to a shield-shaped heel. There is an oval shaped vent hole in the handle base. There is a five piece hinge and cast corkscrew thumb piece to join handle to cover. There is a strap soldered rat tail decoration to the handle and top of the lid. The lid is raised with a flat double stepped cover and an applied bezel. The handle has been repaired at the bottom attachment. There is a bruise on the handle from the lid thumb piece.

The body with prick dot engraved decoration of bird with wings raised between floral sprays to one side, and another bird atop of a fruiting branch between floral sprays. The rim engraved with contemporaneous inscription “The gift of Thomas and Susannah Forester to J.F”. Marked underneath with town mark twice and makers mark twice.

This is a fine Trefid tablespoon made in Newcastle c1690 by Eli Bilton. It is in very good condition, very good bowl and rat tail, it is struck clearly with the makers mark twice. It is 19cms long and weighs 50 grams. It has lovely period initials K over RM.

Made in the latter years of the 17th century, this trefid spoon has a delightful ribbed rattail to the reverse of the bowl and engraved betrothal initials to the reverse terminal in the form of a triangle with the newly weds surname initial uppermost. The stem is struck twice with the "EB" maker's mark of Eli Bilton.
The spoon has a good feel in the hand and is in fine condition with just a touch of wear to the bowl tip.

THESE WILLIAM III MATCHING TREFID SPOONS have a deep oval bowl, a ridged rat tail, and a flattened stem with a trefid terminus. The bowl and stem are forged from one piece. Handle with long 'ears', the reverse of the stem initalled 'G over I I'.
These spoons were made before the 1696 Britannia Silver Standard Act possibly as early as 1690.

A LARGE TWO-HANDLED SILVER CUP the bowl embossed with broad convex and narrow concave flutes arranged alternately in vertical lines around the lower part, and a narrow band of spiral convex flutes encircling the upper part immediately under the lip.The noticeable feature of the cup is its large hollow handles, which are semi circular section and have shields applied on the terminals like those found on tankards of the same period.; they are quite unlike the handles usually seen seventeenth century cups, but have some slight resemblance those attached to cups of the early part of the eighteenth century.

CONDITION REPORT
The lip of the cover very slightly misshapen to one area but it fits very well. Surface wear commensurate with age. In generally good condition.
[The above is the auctioneers description but there are three poor markings, none on the cover. Only one is distinguishable as the Newcastle town mark. No makers mark.]
