William Ramsay or Robinson
Spoon, silver, parcel-gilt, fig shaped bowl, baluster knop decorated with trefoils with dots: the end pounced. The conjoined WR mark is probably that of William Ring of Shaftesbury. The seal top is of the Salisbury group B type as described by Tim Kent on page 14 of "West Country Silver Spoons & Their Makers 1550-1750".

The register entry for this object identifies the place of manufacture as Newcastle, and tentatively identifies the mark as that of William Ramsay (?). The seal is pricked with the date 1659, hence the date 'around 1660', as there are no assay office marks. Possibly Winchester.

WR with bird below, Jackson, 1989 pp. 492, date of mark 1670. Marks struck on the cover of tankard (very faint).
